Set up Virtual Switch networking
To set up Virtual Switch networking, you must specify networking settings in
Microsoft Virtual PC and make sure that Microsoft Windows is configured to do
one of the following:
- Automatically obtain an IP Address from a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol) server.
- Use a static IP address if a DHCP server is not available on the network.
Before setting up Virtual Switch networking, contact your network administrator.
To set up Virtual Switch networking for a virtual machine

Start the virtual machine.

On the PC menu, click PC Settings.
- Click Networking.

Select Enable networking, and then click Virtual Switch.
- Click Restart.
To configure Windows to work with Virtual Switch networking

In Windows, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Network Connections.
If you do not see Network Connections, in the list
on the left of the Control Panel, click Switch to Classic View.

Double-click your network connection.

On the General tab, click Properties.

Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
- Do one of the following:

To obtain a TCP/IP address automatically, click
Obtain an IP address automatically.

To use a static TCP/IP address, click Use the
following IP address, and then fill in the fields
with information received from your network administrator.
- Click OK.
Note In addition, your network may require
Domain Name Server (DNS) entries, Windows Internet Naming Service
(WINS) numbers, and other settings. For more information, contact
your network administrator.
